Portable Quake III Arena Information
(go back to the Digital Freedom homepage)
download from (sendspace) or (megaupload)
This game was made portable using Thinstall v3.358.
-> It can be played without installing from a USB thumb drive on any compatible computer.
->-> It was tested on XP & Vista, although it should also work on Windows 98.
->-> A 200 MHz+ CPU is required (1 GHz+ is recommended).
-> All settings are stored in the 'Q3Settings' folder, which is automatically created on first use.
Usage Notes
-> To unlock all arenas hit the apostrophy key ` then type 'iamacheater'. To unlock everything else type 'iamamonkey'.
-> To start fresh simply close the game and delete the 'Q3Settings' folder (back-up/restore this folder to save your progress, settings ...).
Adding An Arena (Map)
-> Obtain a desired map (ex. from www.map-factory.org).
->-> They have a .pk3 extension, if not, it's probably zipped up in an archive, so extract it.
-> Start 'Add Arenas.exe', navigate to the new arena, then copy it to 'C:Program FilesQuake III Arenabaseq3'.
->-> Note: All files are redirected to the 'Q3Settings' folder and are not actually put in the folder stated above (so portability is maintained).
->-> Note: Quake must be named 'Quake III Arena.exe' in order to add arenas (since 'Add Arenas.exe' is only a link to a file inside 'Quake III Arena.exe').
-> To play the added arenas go to Single Player -> Skirmish ... (they are put at the end of the list).
-> To uninstall an arena simply delete the undesired .pk3 file from the 'Q3Settings' folder.
Closing Notes
-> This game includes 31 arenas (26 Death Matches & 5 Capture the Flags), plus hundreds more are available for free online.
-> In order to maintain maximum compatibility I didn't touch the default settings, so if you have a newer PC (1 GHz+), turning the setting up will significantly increase the audiovisual quality of the game. Enjoy.
